Air Botswana to commence flights between Gaborone- Durban this October

Air Botswana will commence flights between Gaborone and Durban on 11 October, with direct flight to King Shaka International Airport.  

The airline will operate three times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) recently announced they are pleased to welcome Air Botswana new route and other new airline routes and more flights to several of its airports.

This new route is part of Air Botswana revitalization drive spearheaded by Chief Executive Officer Lulu Rasebotsa. Recently, Rasebotsa revealed that the airline resolved to procure four aircrafts as part of its revitalization plan to stay competitive regionally and globally. One of four aircrafts, an E175 acquired from US lessor Regional one has already been delivered to Air Botswana.

Rasebotsa was recently quoted saying: “My mandate from the parent ministry was to procure four aircraft; the first one is here. Two more are already paid for, and I’m in the market for the fourth.”

The four will add on three already operated by airline  which are one E170 and two ATR72-600s.

 Transport and Public Works Minister Eric Molale recently explained that that the re-fleeting of Air Botswana was costing P 600 million (USD45.2 million), provided by the country’s Treasury. According to Molale, the goal is to have the airline ready for potential privatization. In addition, he unveiled the Botswana Air Access Project, a fresh project meant to boost tourism to the nation and foster the expansion of the aviation sector.

New routes to be launched by Air Botswana on October 1 include:

3x weekly Gaborone- Durban King Shaka (South Africa); and

3x weekly Gaborone-Windhoek;

From November 1, new services will be as follows:

3x weekly Maun-Cape Town;

3x weekly Maun-Windhoek;

3x weekly Kasane- Mala Mala

3x weekly Kasane- Mbombela;3x weekly Kasane-Cape Town; and

3x weekly Kasane-Windhoek.
