Machaba Safaris plans to construct a second preschool in the Xaxaba village in keeping with their core value of giving back to the community.
The Xaxaba village is situated on a private island in the center of the Okavango Delta, a wildlife-rich world heritage site.
Machaba’s commendable social community initiative in education started in 2017 when the company integrated a pre-school into its community development programme.
In May 2019, Machaba’s first preschool in Ditshiping was finished, and that same year, students in the far-flung area began to be enrolled.
Through this project Machaba Safaris is committed to ensuring access for children in the remote areas of Botswana to have early childhood development regardless of their economic status or place of origin.
Machaba Safaris recently threw a Christmas and graduation celebration for Gonnye Sethlare Pre-School in Ditshiping, which was Machaba’s first pre-school. Mrs. Hatshe, a member of the Machaba board, and the principal of the school shared the company’s goal of supporting early childhood education.
Mma Hatshe added: ‘’despite coming from remote areas without government-run schools, these kids are equally capable and worthy of receiving an education as any other kid in Botswana. This has motivated our company to do more to ensure that children obtain an education in the community in which they are growing up.’’
She said that they are consulting with the relevant government institutions to build the second preschool in Xaxaba, adding that this will help the new Botswana government implement its early childhood education program.
The Christmas party in Ditshiping was held amid fanfare as students, parents, teachers and Machaba Staff came together for this event.
