Wildlife authorities have sounded alarm about rising cases of crocodile poaching in Boteti which are apparently killed and their parts harvested for traditional medicinal use.
Wildlife coordinator Dimakatso Ntshebe recently revealed that crocodile poaching is prevalent in Kumaga in Boteti. He revealed that they are observed that crocs are killed and their skins, brains and nails taken.
Although Ntshebe did not explain further, it however looks that the parts are used for medicinal purposes.
Ntshebe stated that they are in the processes of liaising with village level authorities to come with strategies to stop the problem before it goes out of control.
He revealed that Batswana are involved in this poaching adding the problem is worsened by the drying of the rivers due to ongoing drought.
