Passion Killings: three women murdered; two murder accused committed suicide in Maun

Following a spike in murder cases involving lovers in Maun, at least three women have died in a week, two men have killed themselves, and the third man was hacked by police from a tree.

Dennis Zilawe, Maun Police commander explained that in the initial occurrence, a 23-year-old stabbed a 17-year-old in the Sedie ward early on October 10. After that, he fled the scene. The woman was eventually pronounced dead at Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital after being discovered in a pool of blood.

The man was then reported to the police to have been discovered hanging at his Sedie home. At the hospital, his death was also verified. Police believe the blood-stained knife they found in the house was used in a murder. The cause of the murder occurrence is still a mystery.

Nevertheless, a letter that the police found revealed that the two were involved in a case before a customary court. In that case, the man accused the young woman of not returning a cell phone that she had borrowed from him. It’s unclear if this led to the miscommunication. Whether the two were lovers or not form part of ongoing police investigations.

In the second gripping story, Maun police officers prevented a murder suspect from killing himself in the Disana ward after he allegedly fatally stabbed a woman.

Dennis Zilawe, the commander of the Maun Police station, clarified that the accused reportedly repeatedly stabbed a 27-year-old woman after an apparent misunderstanding. After that, he fled the scene. Letsholathebell Memorial Hospital declared the woman deceased.
The station commander reaffirmed that the event occurred at approximately 21 hours on Saturday, October 12.

Police spent the whole Saturday evening and early Sunday morning searching for the accused, who is from Moeti Ward.
The police search squad discovered the accused hanging on a tree in a nearby woody region of Disana in the morning.
He was found to be alive when the cops were able to scale the tree and cut him loose. Then they hurried him to the medical facility.
Zilawe disclosed that the defendant is currently recuperating in the hospital, and the police hope he survives to face justice. The third case included a murder-suicide that occurred in Riverside ward on October 14 at around 2000 hours. The victim, a 38-year-old woman, was discovered laying still with serious injuries to her head and torso.
