Chobe Holdings Limited participated in projects last year geared at turning Maun into a thriving tourism destination.
The three projects listed below aimed to promote sustainable development methods, improve local tourism options, and upgrade infrastructure. This initiative aims to improve Maun’s reputation as the entry point to the Okavango Delta and enhance visitors’ stays by involving the community and investing in the local tourism arts sector.
The three projects are as follows:
Funding the Basket Monument for Nhabe Museum
Under this initiative, Chobe Holdings is provided financial and logistical support for the construction of a basket monument at the Nhabe Museum. This monument pays tribute to the rich basket-weaving tradition in the region and serve as an educational and cultural landmark in Maun. Funds were allocated for the design, materials, and installation of the project. There is no doubt the project will attract visitors to the museum, enhance cultural appreciation, and promote local artisans. By spotlighting this traditional craft, the project will also help preserve cultural heritage and foster community pride.
Partnership with Ethiopian Airlines for Addis Ababa Route
Chobe Holdings partnered with Ethiopian Airlines for the establishment of a new flight route between Addis Ababa and Maun. This partnership is designed to enhance connectivity for tourists from East Africa and beyond, facilitating easier access to Botswana’s natural wonders, such as the Okavango Delta. The initiative includes joint marketing campaigns, special packages for travelers, and initiatives to promote Botswana as a premier tourist destination in the region. The increased flight availability is expected to boost tourist arrivals, benefiting local businesses and the hospitality sector in Maun.
Construction of Grey Eden Hotel in Matlapana
Ker & Downey Botswana, a division of Chobe Holdings, built the Grey Eden Hotel in Matlapana, a prime location close to Maun, in partnership with local partners Sandrine and Sam Morris.
The luxurious hotel with 12 rooms is located on the banks of the iconic Thamalakane River. The establishment offers opulent lodgings and amenities that showcase the warmth and culture of the area, catering to both leisure and business guests.
The project promotes economic sustainability in the area. Additionally, the hotel is expected to become an essential player in increasing the area’s tourism capacity, providing a base for exploring the natural beauty of the region.
The above projects highlight Chobe Holdings’ commitment to promoting Maun as a key tourist destination in Botswana while also enhancing cultural heritage and providing economic opportunities for the local community.
